ESCOLAGLOBAL WINS ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION PROJECT TO HELP CAPE VERDE CHILDREN

Escolaglobal won the Project Humanity contest, promoted by Acer Education, and received ten computers that will be distributed to two schools in Cape Verde. The award distinguishes the 'Green On' project and was delivered at the Acer EMEA Teachers' Advisory Council, in Barcelona.

The 'Green On' environmental education project, conducted with five-year-old students from Escolaglobal Preschool, was one of the winners of the Project Humanity contest, a worldwide initiative promoted by Acer Education. The aim of the project from the school from Santa Maria da Feira was to convey concepts of recycling and reuse of waste to students and, at the same time, to develop socio-affective skills, such as empathy and helping others.

The initiative is part of the ASA @ escolaglobal project - Socio-Affective Learning - which was created this year at school with the aim of providing students and teachers with tools that strengthen their emotional and social well-being. Ana Belinha, a teacher at the school's Pedagogical Support Service, explains that "activities of this kind invite students to engage and build skills such as empathy and mutual help, which are essential for establishing feelings of belonging and respect for others".

The winners of the Project Humanity contest received ten Acer devices, to be distributed by a charity organization at heir choice. In this sense, the school decided to support and continue the 'Plant Future's project, created two years ago and which seeks to help to equip two disadvantaged schools in Tarrafal, Cape Verde, through a solidary partnership between the school of Santa Maria da Feira and the Tarrafal Municipal Assembly.

The prize was awarded on 23 November, during the Acer EMEA Teachers' Advisory Council which was held in Barcelona. At the event, there were teachers from all over Europe and the Middle East and Escolaglobal was represented by its director general, Nuno Moutinho: "It was a great responsibility to represent the school in this initiative, as I did not want to disappoint our students and families who so passionately involved in this project. I also wanted very much to offer these computers to the disadvantaged schools of Tarrafal, so I am doubly pleased".

For Silvino Évora, president of the Tarrafal General Assembly, "it is extremely important that Acer and Escolaglobal have this collaborative spirit, which promotes development and helps to minimize the gap and asymmetries in the access to knowledge. For the students of the schools from Tarrafal, these computers will open new windows to the world of digital platforms", he explains.
