Medieval Journey of Santa Maria da Feira debuts poster with D. Afonso V

The official poster for the 28th edition of the Medieval Journey in Terra de Santa Maria, starring actor Sérgio Oliveira as D. Afonso V, was recently revealed and stands out for its epic and innovative aesthetic.

The event will take place from July 30 to August 10, in the historic center of Santa Maria da Feira, recreating the 49-year reign of D. Afonso V, marked by conquests, succession conflicts and intrigues.

According to the Municipal Council, the image on the poster stands out for its inspiration in epic films — a characteristic feature of the content of the Medieval Journey, especially the large-format military spectacle — and for its double exposure aesthetic, which mixes photography with digital art.

The imposing figure of D. Afonso V, creator of the County of Feira, incorporates the medieval Castle of Terra de Santa Maria and military elements that refer to the king's campaigns in North Africa. The composition summarizes a reign marked by conquests and succession conflicts, highlighting important episodes in local history.

The images of Sérgio Oliveira, as D. Afonso V, and the Castle of Feira, which plays a prominent role in this reign, were captured by photographer Frederico Martins, CEO and founder of Lalaland Studios. The digital art was done by José Paulo Reis.

The concept and graphic composition of the poster are the responsibility of the Communication departments of the Municipality of Santa Maria da Feira and the municipal company Feira Viva. The proposal resulted in an impactful image, inspired by posters of contemporary epic films, but with unique characteristics that are difficult to replicate, culminating in a differentiated visual product.

It is worth remembering that in March of this year, the organization announced Sérgio Oliveira as the actor chosen to play D. Afonso V, a central figure in the next edition of the historical recreation. After a decade of outstanding performances in large and medium-sized shows, the 27-year-old young man was a unanimous choice, received with enthusiasm by the local association movement and fans of the event.

During the 12 days of the Medieval Journey, Sérgio Oliveira will play D. Afonso V, known as "The African" for his conquests of the towns of Alcácer Ceguer, Anafé, Arzila and Tânger, in North Africa. He was also the king who established the County of Feira, granting the title to Rui Pereira, lord of the Land of Santa Maria and its castle.

The long reign of this king will be the basis for intense days of entertainment and historical recreation.

The Medieval Journey is organized by the Municipal Council of Santa Maria da Feira, in partnership with the municipal company Feira Viva and the Federation of Cultural and Recreational Groups of the Municipality.
