The Medieval Journey already has a purse to celebrate its 20 years

The accessory is handmade and was designed by Rufel

As it celebrates its 20th edition, the Medieval Journey enters the reign of D. Isabel and D. Dinis with a very special gift, which combines the history of the region with the know-how of one of Feira’s most renowned companies: a purse which marks 20 years of the largest Iberian historic re-enactment event. The creation was presented last Friday at the local castle by Ivânia and Carina Santos, the owners of Portuguese leather goods company Rufel.

At the castle’s bailey, around 150 guests attended the launch of the purse that marks the 20th edition of the Medieval Journey. The accessory, a fully handmade special edition, results from a challenge made by the local city council to Rufel, and arrived precisely during the week when the brand is celebrating 41 years of history. There was a familiar face among the guests: model Francisca Perez , the winner of a Golden Globe in the revelation category, who also fronts the brand’s summer campaign. She lent her grace to a party which evoked other reigns, but the star of the evening was, inevitably, the Medieval Journey 20th Edition Commemorative Purse.

This promotional edition is also part of the Santa Maria da Feira - Good Makers concept, promoted and managed by the city council, which aims to boost the local industry. It was an obvious choice: "I wish to congratulate this company for a truly exceptional work. We deliberately chose Rufel for this challenge because we wanted this edition to be a remarkable event" – said Mayor Emídio Sousa at the presentation. The Medieval Journey will take over the city’s historical centre between 27 July and 7 August.

The purse, made of genuine leather, has a distinctive rustic look and is able to carry the best of what is made in Portugal all over the world: "We intend to internationalize the municipality’s events and companies. I always say that we in Feira and Portugal must stand out for the quality of our products", said the mayor. Ivânia and Carina Santos, who proudly presented their company’s latest star, took the opportunity to thank the city council for the challenge: "It was fantastic!"

The Rufel purse will become a part of the history of the Medieval Journey, as the symbol of the 20 editions of one of Feira’s most emblematic events, while promoting the territory’s culture and industry, as it combines the present and history. The purse, which  can be worn in three different ways – as a handbag, with a shoulder strap, and around the waist -, can be purchased at the Medieval Journey’s Official Store, as well as at all the shops selling Rufel products. It costs 99 euros.
