PORTUGUESE CORK FEATURED IN ONE OF THE MAIN WORLD DESIGN SHOWROOMS

The partnership between Corticeira Amorim and Vitra Design Museum (VDM), one of the most important design museums in the world, brought to Weil am Rhein, in Germany, more than 3200 blocks of cork agglomerate produced at the facilities of the Portuguese company. Used in the exhibition Home Stories: 100 Years, 20 Visionary Interiors, the thousands of blocks allowed the creation of artistic structures that involve about 1/3 of the entire showroom. Such supports, designed by the Italian design, architecture and research atelier Space Caviar, accommodate design articles, decorative products and pieces of furniture.

The Home Stories: 100 Years, 20 Visionary Interiors exhibition, which opened its doors last weekend, explores the dominant topics of interior design, revisiting pioneering spaces. A time travel that highlights social, political, cultural, urban and technical changes that have shaped Western interior design in the past 100 years. A reality of which cork is an integrant part.

The collaboration between Corticeira Amorim and VDM is supported by the mission undertaken by the national group to add value to cork in a different, qualitative and innovative way, namely, through the support of numerous artistic, educational and scientific projects. These are initiatives that spread the versatility, multidisciplinarity and potential for innovation of this unique raw material. A typically Portuguese material, 100% natural, ecological, renewable, recyclable and reusable.

The agglomerate blocks used in Home Stories: 100 Years, 20 Visionary Interiors were produced at Amorim Cork Composites (ACC), recognized as one of the most technological industrial units in the universe of Corticeira Amorim. Cork that is not used in the cork stopper industry is ACC's raw material, wastes that allow the development of a unique set of high performance materials for industries, such as aerospace, automotive, energy, construction and sports, among many others.

The exhibition Home Stories: 100 Years, 20 Visionary Interiors can be visited until August 23, when it will leave for a 5-year trip to various museums around the world. We recall that this project takes place in the year in which the Amorim group celebrates its 150th anniversary. Date marked, meanwhile, by the presentation of a new logo and respective graphic identity.
