FISCO STARTS WITH "FRIENDLY INSPECTIONS"

Actions focus on about 80,000 companies, mostly in the construction, catering and housing sectors.

In the coming days, the Tax and Customs Authority (TA) will make a set of inspections of companies that started business last year. According to Jornal de Negócios, these inspections have a "friendly" nature, as they are intended to encourage companies to meet their obligations, particularly in the area of VAT, by alerting to failures and clarifying doubts.

There are about 80,000 companies, mostly in the construction, catering and housing sectors. "Traditionally, the actions were done after verifying the tax facts, by checking the taxpayers' statements (or the lack of them) and amending the right corrections”, explained an official source of AT, quoted by the same newspaper.

The goal now is to "support from the beginning” the taxpayers who have recently entered in the tax system. The AT source assures that the actionsare not intended to raise tax revenue, but rather to improve the "monitoring of the new economic operators”.
