Companies hiring the unemployed to be given access to 60 million throughout 2017

The first competition for the new financial support to the recruitment of the unemployed is starting next week, according to Público newspaper in its 17 January edition. During its first stage, it will support the creation of five thousand jobs.

The Institute for Employment and Vocational Training (IEFP) will launch, on 25 January, its first competition for the new financial support to the recruitment of the unemployed. The measure is part of  Employment- Contract and replaces Employment Stimulus, which was suspended in the middle of last year. The news was front page headline in the 17 January edition of Público newspaper.

According to the newspaper, this new programme will be more selective than its predecessor, and will no longer support companies that employ the unemployed for periods under a year. IEFP will advertise the regulation once the law that creates the measure is published on the Official Gazette, which should happen during the coming days.

For the first competition, an initial budget of 20 million euros will be made available, and two more application windows will be open during the year. Público mentions that the three competitions are expected to total 60 million in support and reach 15 thousand unemployed.
