AMAZON DISCOVERS PORTUGAL

"Amazon - Your partner for online business in Europe", was how Amazon presented itself to Portuguese entrepreneurs, at a session promoted by AICEP in Leça da Palmeira.

The Director of Amazon in Europe, Ryan Frank, explained to the audience how the platform works, with the goal of "opening the digital doors to new customers and new business opportunities in Portugal".

According to AICEP, "e-commerce is an unavoidable reality in the internationalization of companies" and should "reach, in 2021, a value of 4.8 billion dollars worldwide". According to João Dias, administrator of the Portuguese institute responsible for promoting the internationalization of the Portuguese economy, "e-commerce growth will be one of the trends to mark the coming years and should be a priority for Portuguese companies that want to affirm their products internationally, especially the SMEs”. For this reason, AICEP is investing in the Exportar Online program, which essentially aims to contribute to a successful digital internationalization of Portuguese companies through awareness, training and advice to companies, as well as support in the implementation of the digital internationalization plan and the systematization of incentive sources.

Eurico Brilhante Dias, Secretary of State for Internationalization, adds that "broadening the national export base is one of the strategic options of the Government", this is why it is being promoted a national roadmap.

What is Amazon?
Amazon was created by Jeff Bezos in 1994, almost in the early days of the Internet. Predicting the advances that could happen in the network, the executive decided to create a new business model: online sales and distribution of books. Amazon would evolve and, currently, it commercialize all types of products. Additionally, it offers various services to companies. In its formal presentation, Amazon assures that "its main value is to know the needs of its consumers".
